Veteran Marathi and Hindi actor Jayant Savarkar dies at 87

Veteran actor Jayant Savarkar, known for his work in Marathi and Hindi cinema, died on Monday morning at a hospital due to age-related issues. He was 87.

Savarkar had a career in Marathi and Hindi films, theatre, and television that spanned six decades. He appeared in films such as Hari Om Vithala, Gadbad Gondhal, 66 Sadashiv, and Bakaal in Marathi, and Yugpurush, Vaastav, and Singham in Hindi.

Savarkar's son Kaustubh said that his father was admitted to a hospital in Thane about 10-15 days ago due to low blood pressure. His health deteriorated on Sunday night and he was put on a ventilator. He passed away on Monday morning due to age-related issues.

Savarkar's death has been met with an outpouring of grief from the film industry. Actor Nana Patekar said that Savarkar was a "great actor" and a "good human being". Actor-producer Mahesh Manjrekar said that Savarkar was "one of the finest actors of his generation".

Savarkar's body will be kept at his residence in Thane for people to pay their respects. He will be cremated on Tuesday.

Savarkar's death is a loss to the Marathi and Hindi film industry. He was a talented actor who will be remembered for his many memorable performances.
