"NEET UG 2023: NMC States Feasibility Concerns, Rejects Proposal for Biannual Conduct"

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently responded to a request put forth by the All India Student's Union, urging the conduction of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG twice a year. The NMC has stated that such a proposition is not feasible due to the complete filling of all MBBS seats during the counseling process.

In its response, the NMC highlighted the substantial financial and logistical resources required to organize the NEET examination. Conducting the exam twice annually would impose an excessive burden on the government exchequer, which the commission deemed impractical. As an alternative, the NMC suggested that aspiring candidates should consider applying for the medical entrance test in the following year.

The NEET UG is a highly competitive examination conducted at the national level for admission to undergraduate medical and dental courses in various government and private colleges across India. Its single annual occurrence ensures a standardized and efficient admission process, streamlining the allocation of available MBBS seats based on merit
