New Delhi, 27 June 2024 – The suspension of Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh, which was imposed by the Privileges Committee on 24 July 2023, was revoked today. The decision was taken after the 77th and 78th reports of the Committee were tabled, which held Sanjay Singh guilty of breach of privilege of the Council, but also recommended that he has already suffered sufficient punishment.
The Committee of Privileges presented its report to the Rajya Sabha on 26 June 2024. The Committee in its conclusion, while considering all the cases pending against Sanjay Singh, found that the member has suffered sufficient punishment for his breach. Taking into account the recommendation of the Committee, the Chairman decided to revoke the suspension of Sanjay Singh.
Announcing this in the Rajya Sabha, the Chairman said, "The President, exercising the powers conferred on me under Rules 202 and 266 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Rajya Sabha, hereby revokes the suspension of Member, Sanjay Singh, with effect from 26 June 2024 to allow him to attend Parliament." He expressed hope that the House will approve the decision.
After this decision, Sanjay Singh will now be able to participate in the upcoming sessions of Parliament. His suspension had been the subject of a long controversy and discussion, but now it has come to an end after the report of the Privileges Committee and the decision of the Chairman.
