"Controversy Surrounding Cricketer Ravi Vishnoi's Move to Gujarat: Ranji Tournament Contention and Allegations of Step-Motherly Treatment in Home State Rajasthan"
Promising cricketer Ravi Vishnoi has made headlines by leaving the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) and joining the Gujarat Cricket Association. The catalyst behind this decision was the Ranji tournament that occurred five months ago, where Ravi was repeatedly excluded from the playing eleven of the Rajasthan team, except for a single match. Supporters of Ravi argue that regulations were not adhered to in this matter.
Just two days ago, Ravi took to social media donning the jersey of the Gujarat Cricket Association, signaling a fresh start in his career.
Political turmoil prompts departure from domestic cricket:
Following Ravi's move, a fresh controversy has erupted, suggesting that he left Rajasthan's domestic cricket scene due to the alleged step-motherly treatment he received from the Rajasthan Cricket Association. During the Ranji matches in Rajasthan, Ravi was given minimal opportunities to showcase his skills, only featuring in one match where he was limited to a few overs. In the last match, despite having a talented spinner like Ravi, an external spinner was brought in to play instead.
Sources indicate that there was pressure on the team manager to exclude Ravi from the lineup. Frustrated by these circumstances, Ravi decided to switch states.
Choice to join Gujarat prompted by lack of Ranji opportunities:
Rajesh Badhana, the Joint Secretary of RCA, revealed that he had a conversation with Ravi, during which Ravi disclosed his pre-existing intention to join the Gujarat Cricket Association. Ravi cited his exclusion from the Ranji matches as the reason behind this decision.
Badhana stated that although Ravi had represented Rajasthan in T20 and ODI matches, he wasn't given an opportunity to play in the Ranji Trophy due to the presence of two leg-spinners. Manav Suthar performed well during that period, and Rahul Chahar is also a skilled spinner. The decision to field one of the three spinners rests with the coach and captain, and the association does not play a role in the selection process. Ravi also expressed his willingness to participate in the RPL if permitted, indicating that his departure was not driven by anger.
U-19 World Cup success garners attention:
Ravi captured the spotlight after claiming the most wickets in the Under-19 World Cup in 2020, kickstarting a successful career. He currently represents the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, having been acquired by the team for Rs 4 crore in 2022. Prior to this, Ravi played for the Punjab Kings for two seasons.
Ravi's jersey number, 56, holds sentimental value as it combines his birthday (5th December) and his father's birthday (6th June). The initials "RM BISHNOI" on his jersey represent Ravi and his father, Mangilal.
The controversy originated from a Ranji tournament match that took place five months ago at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur.
Recognition as the best bowler with 17 wickets:
Ravi previously played for the Punjab Kings in the IPL from 2020 to 2021 before being released ahead of the 2022 season. In the 2022 IPL, he achieved 16 wickets while representing the Lucknow Super Giants.
Ravi was a part of the Indian cricket team that competed in the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2020, where he earned the title of the best bowler for his exceptional performance, taking 17 wickets.
Notably, during the trials for selection in the Rajasthan U-19 cricket team in 2019, Ravi aspired to be chosen but unfortunately did not make the cut.
Establishing a new home and early accomplishments:
Ravi's residence in Jodhpur, located in the RTO Colony, was constructed in 2016 after selling their old house. Since then, Ravi's career has been on an upward trajectory. In 2017, he secured a spot in the Under-14 team. Subsequently, he played for the Punjab Kings in the IPL from 2020 to 2021 before being drafted by the Lucknow Super Giants in 2022 for a whopping 4 crores. Ravi made his international debut on 16 February 2022 in the first T20 match against West Indies, claiming 2 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs and earning the player of the match title. To date, he has participated in 10 T20 Internationals and one ODI.
